News: De La Soul’s Posdnuous & Dave present new duo First Serve

While fans are patiently waiting for the oft-delayed new album by De La Soul, two members of the legendary hip hop trio have announced a new side-project. First Serve, a duo consisting of Kelvin Mercer (Posdnuous a.k.a. Plug 1) and Dave Jolicoeur (Dave a.k.a. Plug 2). Stream the first song called ‘Pushin’ Aside, Pushin’ Along’ here:

Last month there was a low-profile unofficial mixtape release by First Serve called The Goon Time, in affiliation with Parisian producers/DJs 2 & 4 (a.k.a. Chokolate & Khalid), who met as turntablists at the 2004 DMC Championship. According to their Soundcloud page First Serve is “their brainchild”. So it seems like First Serve started off as a collective fun idea, hopefully leading to more material.

Below you can watch ‘Mrs. Whitter’, the first video teaser from the animated world of Plug 1 and Plug 2. The video tells the story of Deen Whitter and Jacob ‘Pop Life’ Barrow and their early days of laying down demos and mixtapes at Deen’s mother’s place.
