So many great independent artists in such a tiny country: the Netherlands is the young talented kid amongst big brothers Germany and France. On a weekly basis we’re thoroughly surprised by hungry beatmakers and skilled emcees from the lowlands. This hip hop EP by Unannounced Guest and The Planty Herbs is our most recent find.
The refreshing productions on From The Shelves by Tilburg-based duo The Planty Herbs lean on soul, funk and jazz influences, used by emcee Unannounced Guest (half of duo Kroons) as backdrop for his down-to-earth rhymes. According to their Bandcamp page “he likes it vintage and dusty, he likes it funky, soulful and raw, he likes to experiment”. That’s exactly how we like it too. “Fire”, “Walk The Talk” and “Nuthin'” are our favourite tracks on this EP.
