Video: Rhythm Roulette with 88-Keys

In this video veteran producer 88-Keys makes a beat out of three random records from music store Academy Records in East Village (NYC). From a Steve Martin standup record to hardcore noise metal, Eighty Ocho wasn’t given much to work with but stuck with the challenge. This is the second edition of Rhythm Roulettea fairly new video series by Mass Appeal, one of the best hip hop magazines worldwide – ever.

The idea behind Rhythm Roulette is simple: take a producer to their local record shop, have them pick out a specific genre they’d like to choose from, blindfold them, and have them select three records. The producer then takes us to their lab, chops up some samples, drum breaks, etc., and creates a beat from the randomly selected records.

Just an ordinary guy always on the hunt for extraordinary music. Not just as the founder of The Find Magazine & Rucksack Records, but also as a freelance music journalist (bylines at Tracklib, Bandcamp, Wax Poetics, DIG Mag, among others) and—above all—out of love for all kinds of good music.
