Stream: Pete Flux & Parental – Right Here
Sibling founded indie label Akromégalie Records is one of the best sources for golden era sound today. The crew stays busy behind the scenes and releases a small quantity of superb vinyl releases. The latest in their catalogue features Atlanta based emcee Pete Flux and producer Parental (of Kalhex) for a short 10″ called Right Here.
As a child, I first fell in love with hip hop because of the interplay between rapper and instrumental. It was the way a producer could make a beat consisting of the catchiest and most head nodding rhythms, and then an emcee would flow effortlessly atop the drums and melodies, weaving vocal instrumentation within the tapestry of song.
As I sit here with a glass of wine and let the sounds of this EP bump through the speakers, I’m reminded of why I love the art of hip hop. This is the sound I love and indeed the aesthetic that inspired the foundation of this site. Akromégalie embody the spirit of golden era hip hop in the modern music scene that is over saturated with vapid hype-driven styles and artists. They put out honest quality music with dope limited physical vinyl pressings and basically, you need some of their records in your collection.
It may be a bit late, but the last few copies of this record are available through HHV. Listen to the stream and purchase the record if you enjoy it. Also, keep an ear out for the next release on the label by Lex which features Shing02 on the mic and is sure to be another gem.
