After listening to Astrid Engberg’s previous album Life Goes On on a regular basis for almost a year, it’s nice to get her new album Poetry Is Gone into rotation now. So far it’s been an unexpected but very pleasing experience.
I should start by saying that I was ready for an intimate album with a massive touch of dark, jazzy sounds. But the first single was a little hint of what I was about to find instead: ten diverse cuts that still match each other perfectly. Astrid sounds direct and closer to the listener than ever, also thanks to Mattic’s rhymes and heavier production work, mostly influenced by hip hop beats and traditional African music.
