Free Download: Joe Kickass – The Average Joe
From the mighty German label Project:Mooncircle, Amsterdam native emcee Joe Kickass unleashes his sophomore album The Average Joe as a free digital download or gold colored vinyl. While the label is primarily known for pushing the boundaries of experimental beat music, when they release more traditional hip hop, it always something special.
Sounding something almost like a laid back Method Man, Joe Kickass’ voice is naturally attuned to raps and flows superbly over a large range of beats through the full LP. Tracks like “Gardener”, “Switch”, “Holding On”, and “The Average Joe” lean towards the jazz and funk roots of classic hip hop, while many other songs blend futuristic woozy beats with Joe’s throwback rhyme style. Check out the lead single “The Big Bang” and a fitting music video of Joe spitting bars often referencing space while he appears to have acquired a position as a mission specialist for the European Space Agency on the ISS. All in all, the full project is a highly evolved and mature follow up to his 2010 debut full length Mind Joe.
